My Bath and Body Works obsession seems like a lifetime away, but I finally finished up my last bottle of foaming hand soap. I decided to do some research and experiments to create some easy liquid soap (not the legitimate kind that involves potassium hydroxide) and this is what I have come up with!
Gel Liquid Soap
Ingredients:
- 1 c Grated Soap (about half a bar of Purely Patricia soap)
- 1 tbsp Glycerine (you should be able to find this in the health/pharmacy section)
- 10 c Water
Equipment:
- Cheese Grater
- Pot
- Spatula
- Bowl
- Bottle with a Pump
- Large bottle to store extra soap
Instructions:
- Grate half a bar of soap
- Bring water to a boil in a pot
- Add grated soap to the water and stir the mixture until the soap melts
- Mix in the glycerine
- Let mixture cool
- Pour liquid soap into soap dispensing bottle (store excess in a larger bottle that you can use to refill the smaller bottle)
My "Mocha Soap" made with cocoa butter, cocoa powder, coffee and coffee grounds. The glycerine adds moisture to the liquid soap since you're adding water. Glycerine also helps create a silly soap texture.
I ended up grating a full bar and had about 2 cups of grated soap.
My grated soap pieces were fairly large so it took about ten minutes to melt all the soap.
The soap thickens up after it cools.
I suggest using a "prettier" coloured bar of soap for aesthetics, but it'll still be effective at keeping you clean!
Foaming Hand Soap
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap (or any Castile soap of your choice!)
- Warm Water
- 1/2 tsp Glycerine (optional)
Equipment:
- Foaming Bottle (I actually re-used the Bath and Body Works soap foaming bottle)
Instructions:
- Add castile soap to the foaming bottle
- Fill up the rest of the bottle with warm water
Dr. Bonner's Lavender Castile Soap
Warm water mixed with the castile soap.
Foamy soap!
I hope you try these liquid soaps out! Both soaps could be used as body wash but I find something super satisfying about using a bar of soap.
Sincerely,
Patricia
